In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
The heaven where I know we shall someday meet again.
And the earth – perpetually spinning on its slanted axis –
Even in your absence.
He created my soul and yours.
Mine that collects dust as I mull over faith –
Choosing only what appeals.
And yours –
All that is left of you.
The trees and the stars, too, were created in the beginning.
Trees that have decorated both our lives.
Fruits that have made it to your elegantly decorated tables.
Stars that He put in your eyes.
And in the heavens, to give us hope –
Hope that what waits for us above is beautiful.
The constant movement of the ocean, He created in the beginning.
The ocean that you crossed –
Valiant as Odysseus, though Poseidon attempted to keep you dry –
You swam.
In the end you were gone.
But all of you remained.
You created jokes and stories.
Jokes that bring jubilation to every occasion –
Though it seems incomplete without your laugh.
Stories that are told and retold.
Your life remains on the spinning earth,
Surrounded by trees,
Colored by the blue of the ocean,
Lit by the goodness of your soul.
You created those who created me.
Now, between my beginning and end –
I realize that I am more and more like you.
In the middle I have come to the realization:
There is neither beginning nor end.
The end is only as we perceive.
And the beginning is a mere continuation of what was before.
I believe in the circle, of life and all other things.
And God created that too –
In the beginning.
