The Djoker Strikes Back!

On a mild night in New York’s Arthur Ashe stadium, Novak Djokovic bested his biggest rival, Rafael Nadal, in a match that will live on in tennis history.

The 24-year-old Serbian native added a third Grand Slam title to his remarkable trophy showcase today when he defeated Rafa to win his first U.S. Open title.

Novak Djokovic (1) 6 6 6 6
Rafael Nadal (2) 2 4 7 1

The match, scored 6-2, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1 in four hours and 10 minutes seemed effortless for Djok.

When asked how he felt after winning his first US Open title, Djokovic told the Wall Street Journal that ”[i]t’s incredible, an incredible feeling.” He now has a stronghold on the number 1 men’s tennis seed; however, his most impressive accomplishment in this particular match was making Rafa flinch.

At points at the beginning of the match, Nadal was playing like he didn’t even want the title. However, even when he stepped it up, it was not enough to stop tennis’ new #1.

Rafael Nadal (2) is arguably the most fearless player in men’s tennis today. After Nadal threw everything he had at Djokovic- his fastest serves, his most vicious slices, and his widest range of motion- and Djok absorbed it all with grace and strength, Nadal looked at the crowd with an expression of sheer frustration.

Nadal is still a crowd favorite, but there’s a new man on the map and his name is Novak Djokovic. Sorry Nadal, you got served.
