The Executive, the only student-run print publication of the Syms School of Business, announced today the re-branding of its newspaper under the name The Associate. The Executive has undergone a full-scale “re-branding initiative” to re-strengthen the paper and generate interest. The pilot issue of the paper will be released on campus in early November.
The redevelopment of the paper aims to achieve its underlying goal of creating a more cohesive, unified student body through the collective efforts of a paper for the students, by the students. Most importantly, The Associate will facilitate sharing information that can help fellow students make the most of their undergraduate business school experience.
New management has been recruited under the new Editor-in-Chief, Devorah Deutsch, to improve the paper’s quality, sharpen its look, update its style, and – ultimately – take the paper to the “next level.” An impressive team of writers, editors and business managers have been hard at work turning the new vision into a reality.
Deutsch commented, “The Executive pioneered the proposal for a publication dedicated to the broader Syms community… We believe that [moving to] a name which focuses on unitization and interconnectedness more accurately communicates the goal of the publication; we hope students, teachers and alumni alike will respond positively and actively to the change.”
Among the many new sections to be included in the paper will be a section dedicated to Syms-related topics of interest, and a section dubbed “Torah V’Avodah,” which will incorporate relevant business issues from a Torah perspective, in sync with Yeshiva University’s Torah U’Madda philosophy.
Eitan Smilchensky, The Associate’s new Managing Editor, commented that the paper “will always be open to submissions from our readers … We would love everyone to be involved, and hope that students and faculty alike will take advantage of the paper… [The Associate] is your way of connecting through a medium [which is] about you. This is your paper.”
What are the future plans for the paper? Deutsch hopes to have the paper online by early next year. She remarked, “Getting The Associate online will help further our goal of strengthening student cohesiveness, providing an easy way for the larger Syms community to stay connected.”
