Letter to the Editor: Sexual Abuse

This article includes graphic details. Reader discretion is advised.

Mordechai Twersky had guts to publish “Sexual Abuse in Institutions of Education.”

It’s not easy to come forward publicly as a victim of sexual assault. I cannot bring myself to reveal my identity and I suppose that alone may prevent you from publishing this letter. Or maybe this is too graphic an account. The assistant principal to which he refers was well know at the time to enjoy “wrestling” with the high school students.

Lesser known are the felonious acts of another pedophile rabbi at MTA whose behavior under the guise of student punishment included sodomy by anal penetration (with objects) – which happened to me over 30 years ago. I was not entirely silent on the matter back then. My father and I reported this to the administration after the rabbi contacted me at home.

The rabbi was forced to leave MTA but not before securing his pension. He never faced criminal charges. He left his congregation in Teaneck and moved to Israel. As it happens he now serves on the advisory board of the Young Israel, the same asylum as Mordechai Twersky’s former high school associate principal. I share Mr. Twersky’s alarm that these pedophiles might yet harm others.

Thank you for publishing his Op Ed.
